Why choose me and my style of tutoring?

Above everything, for a child to achieve their potential academically they must feel confident and happy. This is the ethos with which I have always taught; this is what comes first above everything else. Can you work towards excelling in exams without losing the fun, enjoyment and personal growth focus for the individual? That is my goal for every child that I work with.

Due to my experience I am able to offer bespoke tutoring with the added benefit of a setting which gives the enjoyment children get from working with their peers within small groups. Whether your child needs support with their English or maths or they are planning to take the 11+ test, I will do all I can to prepare, resource and deliver sessions that benefit them.

KS2 Year Group Booster Sessions

The tutoring sessions that I am currently offering have been planned to run alongside the primary school curriculum. As I get to know each individual child I will then adapt the work carefully to suit all the members within the tutor group. Children and their parents will be provided with regular personalised feedback so you will easily be able to judge for yourself whether your child is making the progress they need to.

11+ Sessions for Year 4 and 5 Children

I grew up in Goudhurst, attending the local primary school, then a local comprehensive before successfully sitting my 13+ and attending Cranbrook Grammar School.

Straight from school, I followed my passion to work with children and went to university to train to be a teacher. Upon my graduation I moved back to the area and have since taught in a variety of year groups across three local schools. The majority of my teaching career has been spent focusing on the year 5 and 6 curriculum since finding a personal interest for working within this age range.

These experiences have provided years of awareness and understanding of the grammar school system in this area, including the expectations academically required of children attempting to work their way towards sitting the 11+.

My eldest child is currently in year 6 and has recently sat the Kent test whilst my second born has just started his 11+ journey by attending one of my year 4 11+ weekly group sessions. With the experience of supporting both of my children within the process, I am able to offer support and advice to parents from that personal angle too.

Bea Riddiford

I am an experienced and dedicated teacher of English Language and Literature at secondary school level, from year 7 all the way up to A level, with experience of a variety of exam board specifications. I am a double Oxford graduate with experience teaching in the private, grammar and comprehensive school systems. I passionately believe in the enrichment possibilities of reading at all levels, and in the potential benefits of one-to-one tuition to bolster and support students in their study of English and as they prepare to sit their public examinations.

For key stage 3, I offer an enrichment programme of reading and writing to support and enhance what is being learnt at school. This can be tailored to the needs of the individual student, but might include enhanced study of a set text, a “deep dive” into classic texts such as George Orwell’s “1984” or Graham Greene’s “The Third Man” to encourage and stretch avid and mature readers, and creative writing tuition. I have run creative writing clubs at key stage 3 in a variety of educational settings.

At GCSE, I offer exam skills and set-text focused tuition to support students as they prepare for these public examinations.

At A level, I offer help with planning and executing coursework as appropriate, along with set text and exam skills focused tuition.

At key stages 4 and 5, I can offer intensive sessions in the run up to the actual examinations, as well as weekly sessions to support students throughout the entire course, as appropriate and required.

I also have extensive experience as a sixth form tutor and so can advise on UCAS applications and offer preparatory sessions for university tests and interviews.

I also work as an SPLD tutor at Kent University, supporting apprenticeship students with SEN needs. I am now studying for a level 5 Diploma in dyslexia and will use the skills I learn on this course to enhance my tuition provision, and the work that I do for Kent University.

Clare Bannon

I am a primary teacher and former deputy head teacher, with experience of all primary ages including knowledge of special educational needs. I have been teaching in primary education for 26 years and have an up to date paediatric first aid qualification.

I decided to take a break from leadership and am now solely following my passion for teaching Key Stage 1 on a part time basis.  This allows me the flexibility to teach a class and give bespoke learning through teaching groups and 1:1 tutoring.  During my teaching time I have taught all primary aged children including extra hours outside of school for SATs preparation and support and have successfully tutored children in KS1 and KS2.

I can provide additional support for 5-7 years olds in phonics and I am proficient with Little Wandle, the early phonics programme.  Additionally, I can offer maths support and writing booster sessions, with a large range of teaching resources to suit all children’s learning needs. This gives me the opportunity to raise attainment and take them to whatever step they are able to reach. My lessons are varied and enjoyable and I make them both fun and educational with the use of games and websites.

Please do get in touch if you feel this would meet your child’s needs and I would be happy to discuss further.
